Show us yer VAGE

This year was our 2nd pilgrimage to the other end of the country for the VAGE show in Fermoy, Cork. Last year was plagued with heavy rain yet the show shone through enough for us to return again this year.

Our trip was a 2 day affair starting with a cross country run and a night in TJ’s parents bar on the cards – and what a night it was. Gate crashing a girl’s 30th birthday party, hustling each other at pool, stuffing ourselves with black pudding and pulling some very dodgy dance moves – needless to say poor Marian will remember her 30th. A hardcore few also went back to the residents bar in the hotel, it seemed like a good idea at the time!

Morning came, a little too soon for most of us, and it was time to head over to the show. Poor Janice picked the wrong jet wash queue and was stuck behind Phil who took three times as long as anyone else to wash the car – and that was before the cotton buds came out at the show!

The weather behaved itself for most of the day, with only a few spits of rain now and again and there was a great, chilled atmosphere. As with last year, one of the highlights of the day was the carvery dinner which along with a few ice creams helped greatly with the hangovers!

The show itself isn’t massive but there was still plenty to look at. Some of our favourite details were the 2.5 V6 TDI engine in a T3 van and this sick hard line set up in an A4.

Phil’s obsessive cleaning paid off, as he managed to scoop Runner Up MK5 and Connor somehow lost out to Gethin who got Best MK3. Overall the Nordies came out well in the prizes; Paul’s awesome MK4 deservedly picked up Best MK4 and Best in Show, Janice’s TT got Best Other Audi, while Richie, (always the bridesmaid, never the bride!) was awarded Runner Up Seat. A few other fellow northerners not travelling as part of our group also picked up prizes, Colleen, Clark, Gavin and Rodney won the A3, MK5, Passat and Scirocco classes respectively. Meanwhile Toner got Runner Up MK4 and Best Wheels. Congratulations to all!

Like last year we went for a group photo but this year Nigel “Angry Birds” Lamont had other plans as you can see at the end of the photo set!
